Stephen Adams completed a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry at the University of Bristol, UK, followed by an M.Sc. in Information Science from The City University, London, UK. He is a Qualified Patent Information Professional (QPIP - registration number 20190044100092).
He has worked in the UK Government as a technical information searcher in the field of food science at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food, and in the private sector as the editor of International Packaging Abstracts at Pira International.
He began to specialise in patents information after moving to ICI Agrochemicals (later Syngenta) to become their principal patent searcher in 1988. He left to found Magister Limited in 1997.
Stephen served as the first non-US Board member of the Patent Information Users Group (PIUG Inc) between 2002-2006, and as Vice-Chair 2014-2018.
He served on the Editorial Advisory Board of World Patent Information (The International Journal for Industrial Property Documentation, Information, Classification and Statistics), from 2006-2020, and contributed numerous articles to the journal.

In 2012, Stephen received the International Patent Information Award, established in 2000 to recognise and celebrate key individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact in the patent information profession.
